Kukuwa Abba is a Health and Social Development professional with over thirty years experience. Her main areas of specialisation are Public Health Education and Policy, Health Literacy, Mental Health Promotion and Culture and Health.
Kukuwa has worked in the NHS in the UK on Health Improvement, Health Impact Assessment and Community Health Development. She has also worked with the Commonwealth Secretariat on a number of health issues including non-communicable diseases (NCDs), such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, cancer and mental health.
As a result of her many years of research on the use of herbs in different cultures, Kukuwa has more recently begun to do research on the use of traditional, under-utilised crops in Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean. Many of these crops have the potential to improve food and nutrition security and social and economic development in those regions.
Kukuwa continues to provide consultancy on International Health and Social Development issues as well as offering services to individual clients on health and personal development. She also continues to pursue her interests in education and health improvement for girls and women, particularly in Africa and the Caribbean.
